Probably the most influential female within the world, according to Forbes, is The First Lady. As the first lady prepares a multi-state campaign swing in the coming week, Democratic prospects are hopeful that her power translates to votes within the November election. Forbes’ arbitrary selection of Obama has aroused quarrels for and against her across the political spectrum.
The First Lady is over Hillary, Lady Gaga and Oprah
Michelle Obama made the top of the list when Forbes published its 2010 “New Forbes Power Women” story on Oct. 6. The list contained the top 100 business moguls, movie stars and politicians that had an influence. “Creative influence and entrepreneurship” was the focus Forbes had this year. In its’ profile of Obama, Forbes called her “a true change-maker” who has “given a new generation of girls and women all over the world a role model.” The source of the magazine said Obama’s strength style “stays away from hard policy.” This is considered a good thing. The Forbes list top 10 women consist of Ellen Degeneres in the 10th spot, Beyonce in ninth, Lady Gaga in seventh, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in fifth, German Chancellor Angela Merkel in fourth and Oprah Winfrey in 3rd.
Dems hoping to benefit from the designed strength of the first lady
Michelle Obama has been within the campaign field increasingly more. Within the last few weeks, she’s gotten even more aggressive. CBS News reports that she has been making speeches to the Democratic base to warn them about the political consequences to the Obama agenda if Republicans succeed in taking over Congress in the November midterm elections. Next week the first lady sets out on a seven-state fundraising tour to support Democratic candidates in tight races. A 66 percent approval rating was assigned to her. This comes from the Washington Post. There is a 44 percent approval ranking for Obama. This comes from a CBS poll.
Arguing Michelle Obama’s ranking
There are certain circles that do not agree with Michelle Obama being placed at the top of the Forbes most influential females list. Obama needs to be working on bigger issues if she is going to be at the top of the list, says Peter Grier at the Christian Monitor. This is why he put Hillary Clinton above her. There are others who think Obama is only getting the prize because of her position. This is compared by Michelle Malkin on a blog to President Obama’s “undeserved honor” of being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Malkin went on to criticize Obama for failing to land an Olympic bid for Chicago, failing to get Congress to pass a child nutrition bill and campaigning for Democratic candidates in the forthcoming election.
