Tropical Storm Nicole recently passed through the Caribbean, flooding Cuba and causing the recent Jamaica mudslides. The remains of the storm are hitting the United States. The North Carolina floods are a direct result of parts of the storm. The Governor of NC has announced a state of emergency. There’s a flood advisory for each and every state from Carolina to Maine. Tornados are also very possible, and being watched for closely. Thus far, these have been the worst consequences yet of the 2010 hurricane season.
Carolina has seen a ton of floods
Cable News Network reports that Beverly Purdue, the governor of NC, announced the state to be in a state of emergency. Jamaica and Cuba have finished seeing Tropical Storm Nicole that is now hitting the United States coast. The storm caused the Jamaica mudslides, which lately killed two individuals. In three days, the state got over 12 inches of rain. This is when it started to flood. The East Coast is expected to get more rain. Saturday October 2 we'll see at least another 8 inches fall. 15 inches of rain has already hit Wilmington, North Carolina. There are hardly any automobiles that can drive on those roads. It is hard to reach those people.
Watching for tornadoes to arrive
Tropical Storm Nicole will likely start a twister on the East Cost somewhere. There is a New Jersey tornado watch, and advisories in place from the Carolinas to Maryland. ABC reports that Washington D.C. is preparing because of twister and flash flooding warnings that are in effect. New York flooding could mean disaster. The subway system floods could mean terrible things for lots of people.
The time of year is not done
The 2010 hurricane season will last until the end of November. This year, the U.S. is not getting it too hard actually. Most years before have been worse than this. Hurricane Igor and Hurricane Earl were thought to be major threats, but resulted in a bit of wind, rain, and little else. The remaining parts of Tropical Storm Nicole should pass before Sunday Night Football is over.
