Bavarian Motor Works 5 series and Sonata ace collision tests

This year’s collision assessment ratings have just been released. The revised scoring system is for a brand new scale, of 5 stars. Only two automobiles managed to net a five star rating in the tests. The BMW 5 series and the Hyundai Sonata were the only automobiles that got five stars in the assessments. The original round of screening put 34 cars via collision testing, including a new sliding side impact collision assessment.

Brand new crash assessment standard

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration came out and changed some things. The crash test rating system was one of these things. Now the scale goes to five rather than from 1 to 4 as it used to. Today was the end of the first round of testing. This is what USA Today reports. The first round of tests was conducted on 34 cars. 22 more could be within the second round of testing. The brand new rating system changes other things. Criteria is going to be stricter as well. A new assessment is being added also. There will be assessments over side collision. This is because skidding happens with side collision occasionally. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration decided collision avoidance systems needed to be tested too. One of these tested was the electronic stability control. Individuals are told by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration to compare older standards to newer standards now.

Bavarian Motor Works and Hyundai Motors get ratings at the top

Five stars were only awarded to two of the vehicles. This was part of the collision testing. The Hyundai Sonata got a perfect five-star crash test. The only other car to get that was the BMW 5 series. Also, only three vehicles did really badly. They were given less than a four. The Toyota Camry and Camry Hybrid were the only two autos to get a three-star rating. This past year the Camry did the best. It got the highest ratings available. The lowest scores came from the Nissan Versa. Four out of five stars was given to the other automobiles.

More cars to test

There was only the first round of tests done. That’s where these results come from. 22 much more cars still need testing. The NHTSA will do this testing. Safecar.gov is where the facts are. That is where you can find the whole list of ratings.
