Airports are put on high alert. A UPS plane within the United Kingdom was found to have a suspicious package. UPS planes and trucks across the United States have also been postponed for further inspection. The suspicious packages are mostly “manipulated” printer toner cartridges.
UPS shipments delayed around the world
This morning, high alert was what all U.S. airports were put on. A UPS plane within the United Kingdom had been found to have a suspicious package on Thursday evening, leading to the current ripple effect. Cargo flights in Newark and Philadelphia, as well as a UPS truck in New York, were all subject to heightened inspection. Flights and packages received from Yemen are the primary focus of these inspections. The Transportation Security Administration is working in cooperation with UPS officials to remove these suspicious shipments and examine them further.
UPS getting a bomb squad called too
The original plane within the U.K. that had been delayed had a toner cartridge in it. The toner cartridge came out negative for explosives. This doesn't stop them from continuing to test it though. The UPS truck in New York could be looked at by the bomb squad still. There is a quite small risk coming with these packages.
Using extreme caution with situation
"Out of abundance of caution," All UPS trucks and planes are going to be searched. Airports aren’t being shut down, however, as the risk is believed to be relatively small. Freight distribution may be postponed for a couple of days, but the overall impact can be fairly small. Don't be worried about anything that will be arriving at your door in the near future as the delay of UPS cargo flights and UPS trucks is nothing to be worried about.
