In Playa del Carmen in the Grand Riviera Princess resort, there was a blast. 2 Mexican employees and five Canadian tourists were all killed in the blast. The explosion injured 18 guests at the 676-room resort on Mexico’s Caribbean coast about 50 miles south of Cancun. At the resort restaurant, there had been an explosion that caused metal, glass and pavement to hurtle 50 yards in any direction right after numerous had just sat down for breakfast. Eight of the most seriously injured are Canadians. Two are in critical condition. Ten others, including two United States of America citizens, and eight Mexican employees suffered less significant injuries.

The Grand Riviera Princess explosion was investigated which ended up showing that there may have been natural gas under the resort lobby floor which may have caught fire. The hotel had been built on a concrete slab that had been near the beach and over the swamp although there are no gas lines. Authorities believe decomposing plant matter underground produced the gas. The construction of the Playa del Carmen resort is being investigated also to make sure that there were not any illegal shortcuts done to trigger the issue.
