Mexico tunnel discovery a drop in the drug smuggling container

The Mexico tunnel is not exactly a marvel of design. The Mexico tunnel is a marijuana smuggling passageway linking San Diego and Tijuana. Federal agents grabbed thirty tons of marijuana last week when they discovered the Mexico canal, which is about a third of a mile long.

Mexico tunnel might are dug by a drug cartel

Warehouses in San Diego and Tijuana where drug smugglers stored a stash were where the Mexico tunnel led to. A Mexican drug cartel is probably responsible for digging the Mexico tunnel considering how much it would have cost to do the whole thing. A suspicious looking semi-truck had been driving from a warehouse near the Mexican border in an industrial area which led to a Drug Enforcement Agency investigation that started Tuesday. There were 10 tons of marijuana found in the trailer as a Border Patrol checkpoint stopped the truck. The DEA agents were then responsible to raid the warehouse to see what had been there. An additional 10 to 15 tons of weed were found.

$20 million in pot taken

The DEA agents found the Mexico tunnel while searching the place. A small closet in the floor had a hole there that began it. The passageway that had been found had been lighted and ventilated. It was 20 feet under the ground and six football fields long. Another warehouse in Mexico had been at the end of the tunnel. Mexican authorities were alerted and another 4 tons of marijuana were seized south of the border. About $20 million in marijuana was taken in by the DEA.

Still seeing a lot of drug traffic

Drug cartels are going a growing number of underground since there has been a crackdown on drug smuggling leading to the Mexico tunnel. 150 tons of marijuana were seized by Mexican authorities last month. This bust in Tijuana had been the largest in Mexican history to be recorded. The amount of illegal drugs coming from Mexico into the U.S. probably won't stop with these seizures, the Christian Science Monitor reports. Sara Miller of the Monitor wrote that the mega-busts were no more than a PR victory for the Mexican government. Her comments prompted the Mexican U.S. ambassador to write Miller an angry letter.
